Very Rare, "40 Added" Walther P.38 Rig

5/12/25 - This is a very rare Walther P.38 from 1940, known as the "40 added" variation. In 1940, Walther was assigned the new production code "ac". The first 2,650 pistols produced were made without the manufacture year marked on the slide, and at some point it was decided to add those last two digits. The earliest dated variation was made using slides that were already 'ac' marked, so the '40 date was added later. There were only about 6,000 of this variation produced in 1940. The pistol is all matching numbers, including the grips. Walther inspection stamps on all small parts. It comes as a rig with a numbered but mismatched magazine and a rear Oak Leaf 9 Bearskin holster. The gun has been re-blued with just hints of high edge wear and a few small marks on the front strap. The bore has great rifling, but it shows some freckling throughout. De-cocker is functional.
