Boxed, Excellent 1949 Colt Official Police Revolver

06/06/26 - This is an excellent, boxed example of a Colt Official Police revolver manufactured in 1949, chambered in .38 Special, and sporting a 6-inch barrel. Originally introduced as the Army Special before being rebranded in 1927 to specifically target the law enforcement market, the Official Police became one of the most successful revolvers in history, with approximately one million units produced. On this particular post-war example, the left sideplate features a crisp Rampant Colt logo, the trigger guard bears the Colt 'VP' Verified Proof triangle, and the barrel features a sharp "OFFICIAL POLICE / .38 SPECIAL CTG." rollmark. The revolver retains about 97-98% of its original high-polish factory blued finish. Finish loss is extremely minimal, with minor muzzle wear, a faint turn line on the cylinder, and a bit of high-edge wear on the cylinder flutes, and a few small spots of finish loss on the cylinder itself in-between the flutes and the cylinder face. A couple tiny dings on the left side of duck barrel. Smooth mechanics, with tight lock up, excellent timing, and a smooth trigger in both single and double action, and a minty bore. It is fitted with excellent, original mottled brown "Coltwood" grips featuring molded Rampant Colt medallions, which were standard for this post-war production era and show no handling marks, chips, or cracks. Also includes an original maroon Colt factory box, which shows heavy wear, edge separation, and extensive tape repairs, complete with an original end label matching the barrel length and caliber, alongside a vintage Colt "Shooting Suggestions" pamphlet.
