Description

6/2/23 - This is a nice example of a British Tower Pattern 53 Musket, chambered in .58 Caliber and dated 1861 on the lock. It was most likely purchased from England by the Confederate Army during the Civil War. It has the proper British export proofs on the breech. It comes with its original ram rod and an original leather sling. Overall, the gun is in nice condition for its age and functions properly. Most of the metal is smooth and is covered in honest "attic patina". There is some minor pitting and very light surface rust around the breech. Very nice wood stock with only minor bruises and scratches throughout. The butt stock may have been very lightly sanded. There are some very faint markings on the underside of the butt stock, but we cannot make them out. May be unit markings. The majority of the bore is very nice - fairly shiny with great rifling.
