Description
4/10/25 - This is a likely original mid-19th century Colt percussion revolver case, designed to fit models like the 1849 Pocket, 1851 Navy, or 1860 Army. The case features period-correct slotted screws, wood joinery without dovetails, and a dark patina that is consistent with its age. The exterior shows typical wear with some scratches and edge wear, adding to its character while preserving its authenticity. The interior boasts a faded red velvet lining in good+ condition, with some minor wear and a small section of the velvet needing re-fastening. The compartment layout mirrors that of original Colt cases, including slots for a powder flask, bullet mold, percussion caps, and bullets, with a cap tin compartment as well. The case includes early cast lead bullets, a James Dixon & Sons Sheffield powder flask marked DRAM, and an unmarked bullet mold, which appear period correct. The paper label inside the lid shows proper aging and period typesetting, further cementing its authenticity. The hinges and hardware appear original, with no signs of modern tooling or repairs, although one wood piece on the left side is loose and needs re-fastening. The case can be locked with a keyhole on the front, but the included key does not appear to be original, as it is too large. This case displays strong signs of authenticity, with original hardware, correct compartment layout, and period accessories, making it a valuable historical piece for any Colt percussion revolver collector.Specifications
