Description
6/20/25 - This is a nice example of a 5.5" Colt US single action artillery model. The guns is fully functional with all 4 clicks - just a tiny bit a wiggle in the cylinder, but the timing is good. The frame is "US" property marked with various mixed military numbers. There is an "A" inspection proof on the barrel. Manufactured under the observation of Orville W. Ainsworth, the first Principal Sub-Inspector assigned to Colt by the War Department. This is a rare inspector to see. This particular gun is especially desirable because it has a an extremely early 3-digit serial number on the frame. Overall, the gun is in fairly nice condition for its age, but virtually all of the finish is gone with light spotty oxidation throughout. The grips have visible military inspection cartouches, and the left side is dated 1880. The bore is really nice for its age, great rifling with just minor pitting and surface oxidation here and there. Antique, No FFL required.
