Description
9/15/26 - This is an excellent example of an original long side rail sniper K98k as produced by Gustloff Werke in 1944. LSR sniper rifles had a thicker left receiver wall milled at the factory to accommodate a long side rail scope base, which was attached with pins and screws. In addition, they had a checkered buttplate, a special modified sniper safety lever and a stock, specifically inletted for the scope base on the left side of the receiver. This rifle has all of the above characteristics and all the proper proof marks/waffentamts on the gun. Matching numbered serials on the receiver, barrel, bolt handle & shroud (other parts are unnumbered). Unfortunately, we believe the bolt handle and shroud to have been professionally renumbered. The scope mount is matching but we believe has been renumbered, and the scope can is matching but appears to be a reproduction. Dialytan 4x scope has a different serial (19510) and would be more commonly seen on the Sauer mounts rather than a Gustloff. The rifle has a beautiful phosphate finish on barrel and receiver, with only minor patina and oxidation in some areas. Scope optics are a little cloudy but the reticle is sharp and clearly visible. Listing includes a sling, cleaning rod and sight hood. Stock is in excellent condition with sharp Heer Army stamp, 'C' on heel and no notable defects. The handguard and stock are unnumbered which would be correct for a late 44 rifle. A rare Gustloff long side rail sniper with a beautiful phosphate finish.
