German Ersatz Bayonet-- French Conversion
| Year: | WWI |
| Maker: | German/French |
| Type: | Bayonet |
| Condition: | Good |
Description
10/15/25- For sale is a German ersatz bayonet made from a captured French 1886 pattern bayonet. The bayonet retains the very long French length and original round scabbard, but the handle has been stripped and replaced with a steel German style handle and Mauser bayonet lug. This is an interesting piece of early WWI history, as it represents the shortage of German bayonets early in the war. The blade is in very good condition with minimal wear or damage, without obvious signs of re-sharpening. The scabbard is noticeably discolored and has scratches and scrapes, but no serious dents or bends. The handle also has scratches and discoloration but again, no damage. Overall in good condition.
