Description
10/17/24 - This is a handmade oil quenched Japanese Type 98 Army Officer's Katana. The blade is great condition with a nice active hamon (tempered edge) visible on each side. Light graining (hada) is also visible on the blade, which indicates handmade forging. Beautiful shine shows evidence of a hand polish with a clean edge and excellent tip. Kissaki measures 1.5in (3.5cm). Nagasa (blade length) is 62.4cm (~24.6in). A few very small surface scuffs and micro-scratches but very clean overall. The hilt is signed by Amahide and stamped with a rare factory hot stamp. Nice crisp markings and natural dark patina throughout the nakago (tang). Mentioned in John Slough's book "Modern Japanese Swordsmiths, 1868-1945: An Oshigata Book". Fitted with a standard army style tsuba with all matching numbered parts (seppa). The tsuka (handle) has normal age and handling wear, and is in great overall condition. Comes with an original and correct army scabbard. The scabbard has excellent finish and natural patina on the brass fittings. Catch and release button fully functional.Specifications
