Description
7/18/25 - The following is a good example of a German M40 helmet with a netting wrap that would have been used for camouflage purposes. The exterior of the helmet has a bit less then half of the original factory paint remaining along with a German army decal on the left side which is faded and partially chipped but still visible. Where the factory paint is missing there is significant oxidization on the exterior. The netting around the helmet, likely made in the postwar period, is in very nice shape with no tears and attaches to two of the split pins, and all three split pins are still intact. The interior of the helmet likewise has portions of the paint missing and oxidization especially around the brim. The steel band and leather liner are intact. The leather liner is soft and malleable and shows sign of heavily daily wear with some of the tongues either missing or torn, and surface cracking throughout and around the band. The chin strap is partially intact with a piece of the long part still attached but torn, and the short piece with the buckle missing. Made by SE- Sächsische Emailler- und Stanzwerke A.G., size 62, lot number #3484.
