Description
3/3/26- For sale is a Model 1860 light cavalry saber from the Civil War era. These swords were made in large numbers during the Civil War and were used by both sides, although their actual combat use faded as firearm technology advanced. This blade appears to have been nickel played because it is very bright in some spots but shows signs of flaking and bubbling in other spots. The blade has noticeable patina and spots of lost plating which could be considered rust in several places. Because of the plating, no manufacturer information can be seen on the blade. The handle and guard have lost most of the bright brass wash color but the dark structural brass is fully visible. Other than finish loss, the handle is intact with no serious damage. There are spots where the leather grip wrap has been worn through, revealing the wood underneath. There are one or two visible cracks in the wood underneath. The scabbard has patina and one water/discoloration spot but otherwise no serious damage or dents. Sword overall in fair condition.
