Description
11/4/26 - This is a pre-WWII U.S. Army Model 1911 campaign hat. Adopted in 1911 and worn through WWI and the interwar years, the M1911 is recognizable by its "Montana peak" pinched crown, which became the iconic look of the American doughboy. This example is made of brown felt with the four brass-ringed ventilation grommets in the crown, a brown ribbon hat band, and a leather sweatband. It still has its red hat cord with acorn tips, the branch color for artillery. The felt shows light age and wear, with some scuffing and light staining, mostly on the underside of the brim. The hat cord has faded to a lighter red, and only a remnant of the chin strap remains. There is a name handwritten on the inside of the sweatband, and the sweatband shows a couple of spots of white residue that appears to be mold. An honest pre-WWII campaign hat for the U.S. Army display.
