Description
1/29/26- For sale is a rare WW2 era Japanese Navy 1st Class lookout badge. These badges were awarded to lookout crew who were the first to report sightings of enemy submarines or warships to the captain, a critical service on any military vessel. Especially with Japan's defeat in the war and the heavy use of American aircraft to engage Japanese ships rather than closing to close range, these badges are rare. The badge displays a pair of binoculars over an anchor with the rising sun emblem in the middle, all surrounded by a wreath. There is some light patina to the metal but no serious wear or discoloration. The green enamel of the wreath is nicely colored with only one or two very minor chips at the exposed tips of the leaves. The attachment pin on the back is correct for the piece and fully functional. Overall in excellent condition.
