Description
12/16/21 - This is a rare Smith & Wesson Model 56 revolver that was issued to the U.S. Air Force in the 1960s. It comes with a factory letter stating that roughly 15,000 were produced and feature a slightly larger frame than the Model 15 it's based on, and a two-inch heavy barrel. This particular gun was shipped in March of 1963 to the Robins Air Force Base in Georgia, and is marked 'U.S.' on the back strap. These also have a low survival rate as it was rumored that most were destroyed by the military. This gun is all original with maybe 90% of the high-polish blue remaining. It's somewhat tough to rate this one as the finish is splotchy as opposed to standard bluing loss. Minty bore and good mechanics. Excellent grips, though the right panel is serialized and mismatched. C&R eligible.Specifications
