Description
11/3/26 - For sale is a rare WWI German Luger snail drum magazine loading tool. The 32-round Trommelmagazin 08, or "snail drum," was adopted in 1917 for the LP.08 Artillery Luger and issued to assault troops, machine gun crews, and aviators. Its powerful spring made it nearly impossible to load by hand, so a dedicated loading tool like this one was issued with the drums. The tool fits over the drum's feed tube, and the long lever arm is used to depress the follower so cartridges can be inserted one at a time. This loader has its lever, latch, and spring-loaded catch, and there appears to be an Imperial proof on the side of the tube. The tool is fully functional with a strong spring. It is in very nice condition, retaining most of its finish, with obvious spotty, honest scratching and wear throughout. A scarce accessory to complete an Artillery Luger snail drum setup.
