Scarce Walther P.38 - ac 40

3/20/25 - This is a scarce Walther P.38, marked ac 40 on slide, one of only ~12,000 produced. This is a lower production total than early zero series Walthers or first-year production Mauser byf 42's. The gun has matching numbered slide, barrel, frame and the original grips. Interestingly, the locking block is serialized one digit off from the pistol (234b instead of 235b). This is likely just a factory error, but technically mismatched numbers. The magazine is a correct example in the same serial block, but about 1000 numbers off. The original, high-polish blue rates at about 85-90%, with wear on either side of the muzzle, but a notable patch of pitting on the left side of the slide. The bore is mint, so this one doesn't appear it was actually handled much. Proper mechanical function, including the de-cocker. The original grips have a nice brown color and have no cracks but a small surface chip on the right panel.
