Description

12/26/17 - This is a scarce and interesting Smith & Wesson #2 revolver, with ten rounds of original ammo.  There were originally 11, but the previous owner tested one of the rounds in the gun and said everything worked great. Manufacturing of this revolver began in 1860, and it was the first widely manufactured self-contained revolver.  This particular gun was made in 1863, and is all original with about 60% bluing remaining.  The straws show finish loss, while the frame and barrel mostly show notable patina throughout.  Given the date, this one could have been a Civil War piece.  The grips are original rosewood, and one panel is numbered to the gun (other is not numbered).  Bore has strong rifling but minor corrosion and could use a good cleaning.  This model was also known as the only gun Wild Bill Hickock had on him when he died.
