8/20/25 - This is a nice example of a Smith & Wesson Model I, Third Issue revolver. This model was introduced in the spring of 1868 and manufactured until 1882 with a total production of 131,163. The Model I, Third Issue is serial numbered between 1 and 132,500 of the Model I, Third Issue series. This model was designed to fire the old black powder .22 caliber short ammunition and it is not recommended that you fire any modern ammunition. According to the included factory letter, this gun was likely shipped to J.W. Storrs Co. in NY, NY on November 13, 1868. It is in nice condition for its age, retaining roughly 65% of its original finish. The majority of the wear is on the barrel where there is also spotty brown patina. Fitted with very nice wood grips. The bore is really nice condition with strong rifling - just a couple of small spots of surface oxidation here and there. Fully functional. No FFL required.
