Description
10/21/25 - This is an U.S. Model 1892 30/40 Krag bayonet with a scarce leather cavalry scabbard, also known as the Krag Knife Bayonet for its association with the M1892 Krag rifle. These were the first standard production knife bayonets adopted by the U.S. military. Manufactured at Springfield Armory between 1894-1903, and this example is ricasso-dated 1901. The bayonet is in excellent condition, the metal does have a few scattered spots of discoloration a couple tiny dots of light patina. The blade has been experly honed and polished, but the original profile has been mostly maintained, and the result is razor sharp and very clean. The handle is also in excellent shape, with clean smooth wood free of chips or cracks, and the pommel shows very light patina with evidence of mild polishing. The leather scabbard is also surprisingly unmarred, with tan leather and very minor signs of age and handling. There is a person's name written on side of the leather, though the letters do not penetrate and the visual is not obtrusive or distracting.
