Description
12/4/23 - This is an excellent example of a Model 1896 Krag Jorgenson Carbine made at the Springfield Arsenal in 1895. This carbine retains the majority of its finish and still has a deep bluing on the receiver and barrel. The magazine wall was originally in the white but has a layer of patina to it. The wood stock is mostly in great shape with two issues. One is that aftermarket sling swivels were applied in the past and there are drill holes and marks from that. Second, there is a crack going below the bolt between the back of the tang and the right side of the magazine. This carbine has a saddle ring to be used by cavalry. We believe this carbine falls within the serial number range that was used by Teddy Roosevelt's Rough Riders but there is no definitive list of which rifles were issued to the 1st Cavalry. This carbine has a C Stamped on the model 1896 style rear sight and has a 22" Barrel.Specifications
