Description
07/09/26 - For sale is a Springfield Model 1896 Krag-Jorgensen Carbine made in 1896. This carbine falls within the known serial range that was carried by the Rough Riders during the Spanish-American War. The finish on the rifle is well-aged, with it turning a brownish grey patina and tarnish. There is some oxidation along the woodline. The stock is a genuine carbine stock. The surface has some dings and handling scratches. There is no provision for a sling loop on the bottom or a cleaning rod channel. There is a crack between the side of the magazine and the saddle ring screw. The inspection stamp is very faint and is dated 1897. The Circle P is present at the wrist. The bore is fairly bright with good rifling. But the rifling is worn at the muzzle. The muzzle erosion rating is 5.5. The rear sight is incorrect for a carbine and has a 1896 rifle sight. The handguard has an oddity with the rear sight slot, which was elongated, and a flat area ground down. Slight color difference between the stock and handguard.
