Description
6/3/26 - This is an interesting example of a K98k converted into a VG5 / VK98 rifle after the war by a prior owner. The VG5 rifles were simplified versions of the K98k to expedite production to arm the Volkssturm or the "people's army" as the last line of defense. This example has plenty of rough forging marks which is typical of the end of the war. The receiver is only marked "bnz 45" on the top that we believe to be re-stamped. Both sides of the receiver is smoothed over showing signs of being ground. The barrel is void of any proof marks and has consistent, rough machining marks throughout. The bore is bright with great rifling but there is a spot of rust at the muzzle. The bore is counterbored 1 inch. The stock was cut down from a K98 into the VG5 configuration and had the sling loop added to the front. There is a serial number stamped on the inside. The bolt is a crude end-of-war bolt but has serial numbers stamped. The rifle comes with a wartime rubber muzzle cover and sling.
