Description
07/18/2024 - For sale is a Swiss Model 1889 Schmidt Rubin rifle made in 1892. These rifles were one of the first in the world to chamber a small bore rifle cartridge prior to the widespread use of smokeless powder. In 1882, the Swiss would create a cartridge that was a .308 caliber bullet paperpatched in the case to try and reduce lead fowling. The rifle itself is in good condition but there is significant oxidation throughout the metal and a lot of the wear on areas, like the barrel, has its bluing worn away. The stock is in good condition but there are many dents and scratches from use. The rifle has matching serial numbers on the bolt, magazine, receiver, and barrel. The plastic on the bolt handle is mostly in tact but has 3 numbers that do not match the serial number. The top plastic is also cracked and there is some old rust on the handle. The bore is very bright with great rifling. The safety loop/ring is cracked in the back.¬
It is not safe to fire modern Swiss GP11 7.5x55 cartridges out of this gun.¬
