Description
3/1/24 - This is an extremely rare, original example of a Mauser K98 Low Turret sniper rifle. In 1939, the Wehrmacht started a sniper program, and the turret sniper was the result of this program. The designation of the new sniper system was the Zf.39, with the development of this system done at Mauser A.G. Oberndorf. The low turret design came first, and the production totals and surviving numbers of the low turret examples are significantly lower than the later high turret counterparts. This rifle has all matching numbered parts, including the stock and handguard. Only the bolt shroud is unnumbered and features an S/42 proof, indicating it was an armorer's replacement. It has a Schneider (dkl) Dialytan 4x scope with very clear optics. The finish on the scope is original but does show thinning in several areas. Correctly, the front scope mount is serialized (though mismatched). Low turret examples in the 'i' and 'k' blocks had this feature, presumably to be distinguished from a high turret in the same letter block. The metal parts all feature the original bluing, with the majority of finish loss seen around the front sight/barrel. Excellent, shiny bore. The stock is in very good condition and has not been sanded, with WaA135 proof on right face. Comes with an original but worn sling, a cleaning rod and a sight hood.Specifications
