Description
5/7/26- For sale is an ersatz sawback bayonet from WWI. Ersatz bayonets were issued to equip the rapidly growing army in the early years of the war and were gradually replaced as more regulation equipment became available. The sawback is an iconic bayonet pattern, although it was intended to be used literally as a saw rather than the supposedly extra-brutal weapon it was portrayed as in propaganda. The blade is bright with very light patina and no evidence of any damage or chipping. The blade has no manufacturer marks. The handle is plain unmarked metal. The scabbard is a plain metal scabbard with some minor detailing to make it slightly more attractive. The scabbard has some spots of light and dark finish, although it is difficult to tell if it is dark patina on a light base or a dark finish that has worn off. Overall in very good condition.
