Description
11/3/26 - For sale is a WWI US M1917 "Brodie" helmet with a Marine Corps eagle, globe and anchor device mounted on the front. The M1917 was the American-made version of the British Mk. I steel helmet and was worn by US Army and Marine Corps troops in France in 1917 and 1918. Marines of the 4th Marine Brigade, who fought at Belleau Wood, Soissons, and the Meuse-Argonne, often personalized their helmets with the Corps emblem. This shell retains its textured, sand-finish olive drab paint and has the eagle, globe and anchor device attached to the front. Inside is the original liner, with its oilcloth lining, rope netting, and the paper label reading "TIGHTEN CORD AND ADJUST NET TO FIT THE HEAD," along with the leather chinstrap with buckle. The helmet is in good condition overall. The textured paint shows wear and some small spots of surface rust consistent with age. The liner netting is intact, the paper label has some tears, and the chinstrap is present and supple. A great WWI Marine Corps display helmet.
