Description
10/7/24 - This is a good example of a WW2 production K98 Rifle bayonet, scabbard and frog. The scabbard is 1943 dated and the frog is 1941 dated. The blade is blued and in good condition with finish loss from scabbard use but no major rust. There are signs of sharpening on the blade. The blade is serial numbered, however the first number in the serial number is hard to make out. The handle has light surface patina and minor finish loss on the metal parts. The cross guard is numbered "8786". The right grip panel has two lines carved into the wood. Additionally, the top part of the handle that fits against the rifle has some dents in it. The scabbard on this bayonet remains straight and maintains most of its original finish with some light finish loss in spots. The scabbard has two dents on the back, but neither of these effects the function of the scabbard. The leather frog is in good shape, but has become stiff. The frog has all of its stitching and is maker marked "Carl Herting and Co.".Specifications
