Description
6/13/23 - This is an original Remington-Lee Navy Model 1885 bolt action rifle. This rifle was patented by the same man (James Paris Lee) who is known for the Lee-Enfield rifles made for British use during WW1 and WW2. The model 1885 was not nearly as popular, and was only used by the U.S. Navy from 1885-1892. Despite being a revolutionary design at the time, the US military switched to the Krag M1892 shortly after their first order of these rifles in 1885. The rifle features a 5 round box magazine and adjustable rear sight. The receiver is stamped "U.S.N. No 3251 H.H.E." with an anchor logo. There's also a Remington patent stamp and serial number. The bolt and receiver have matching star shaped acceptance proofs. There is not much actual finish loss on the metal parts, but there is heavy brown "attic patina" throughout. Some light streaks of finish loss along the barrel. There are some tiny surface dings here and there along the barrel and a small area of minor pitting on the magazine. The wood furniture has no major damage, but there are obvious dings, bruises and scratches throughout. There is an "H" marking on the left side of the stock. The bore has good rifling, but there are some small spots of minor pitting here and there.Specifications
