Description
7/28/22 - This is a post Civil War production US Marine Corp. M1850 NCO Sword. Made in the 1870s, this blade was modified post Civil War with the etchings we see today. One side of the blade is USMC marked with flags, shields, and a floral pattern. The ricasso on this side of the blade has a small logo proof / manufacture stamp. The other side of the blade has an American Eagle and floral pattern with a maker "WH Horstmann & Sons, Philadelphia" etched near the base of the blade. The etchings are still crisp and have texture, but they show evidence of scabbard wear, aging, and surface patina throughout. There's no excessive wear or discoloration however, and the edge is unsharpened. The leather stopper is still in place but somewhat tattered. The leather handle has surface wear throughout but is completely intact. The hand guard has typical patina. Comes with an original scabbard that has multiple small dents on the metal mouth and tip, as shown. The stretched leather body of the scabbard is in great condition however with some mild surface wear.Specifications
