Description
10/16/24 - This is an excellent example of a WW2 factory made Type 98 Katana. This particular variant is often called a "Contingency Model Type 98". These swords were made alongside the standard Type 98. This "Contingency" type was meant to be cheaper and more robust. These swords have often been called "Marine Landing Swords" which is not the case, however this type could have easily been used in marine landings. The blade on this sword is factory made and is in excellent condition with only two minor flaws, the first flaw is in the edge near the tip, where the blade cracked and was reset. This flaw however is small only being roughly 1mm in length. The second is a very small pitting mark near the spine about a quarter of the way up the blade. Outside of these, there is no other signs of oxidation on the blade and no chips in the edge. The scabbard for this blade is also in excellent condition maintaining almost all of it's original paint. There are two small dents in the scabbard but these are hardly noticeable and do not effect the scabbards function. The grip on this blade is still tight and also in excellent condition.Specifications
