Description

8/31/22 - This is an original WW2 Japanese Officer's Type 98 Katana with an original COA from The Ruptured Duck. According to the certificate, this sword was valued at $1950 by Bill Shea. The blade length is 22 7/8" and is unsigned on the hilt. There's oxidation on the spine of the blade as well as on the sides, with most of the dark discoloration appearing near the tip. The tempered edge is unique and excellent, and the edge doesn't have any notable nicks or dings. The hand guard and pommel have a black colored finish, and the handle wrap is black, which would have been a customization done by the Japanese Officer or his family. The scabbard is a "field scabbard" with a leather wrap over bamboo wood. There is a cloth tag attached to the scabbard with Japanese characters. These characters likely denote the original owner's name and station.
