Description
9/12/23 - This is a US Springfield Trapdoor Model 1884, manufactured in 1890 for the American military during the Civil War. The US Ordnance was looking to convert their muzzleloading muskets and rifles into breech loading rifles. Out of the many designs tested, the Allin Conversion was chosen as the standard for these. Near the breech is proof stamped ÄúSWP 1890Äù and the bottom is stamped "P" in a circle. The metal looks like someone tried to clean it with a wire brush. There are lines throughout the receiver and trapdoor. The rest of the rifle has a nice patina. Towards the muzzle there is light surface rust. The bore is excellent, bright with sharp rifling. The stock is in good shape with no signs of damage, though there are handling marks and dings throughout.Specifications
