SOLD - Civil War Union Officers Sword Belt Plate

11/19/24 - This is a great example of a U.S. Civil War Union Officer's Sword Belt Plate. These were adopted by the Union Army prior to the outbreak of war in 1851. This particular sword belt plate is of high quality with a detailed cast eagle, as well as an applied nickel silver wreath. These wreaths were often cast into these plates and silver washed. The fact that this plate sports an applied wreath, indicates that this plate was one made to a higher standard and at a greater cost to the officer purchasing it. During this time officer's in the Union Army were responsible for purchasing their own equipment from private retailers. This plate does have some minor oxidation, but overall is in great condition.
