Description
12/5/23 - This is an example of a Gew 88/05 that was made for the imperial German army before WW1. The Gewehr 1888 Commission rifle was the response to France's introduction of smokeless powder cartridges. The 1905 update to these rifles allowed for stripper clips to be used to reload instead of en bloc clips. The metal on the rifle is in good condition with a lot of the original bluing remaining. The stock has seen some hard use and has a lot of handling marks and the left side between the front and rear barrel band is missing pieces. The rifle is mismatched and the bore is very bright in the first half but gets darker towards the muzzle. Many of the Imperial German proofs are still visible on the receiver and the stock.Specifications
