Description

12/27/23 - This is an original 1940 dated K98 bayonet with an original matching numbered scabbard. The bayonet is in great overall condition, with an excellent condition blade. The blade retains most of the original finish with some light scabbard rub wear and no signs of sharpening along the edge. The base of the blade is maker marked by Jos. Corts, which reportedly made ~80,000 K98 bayonets in 1940. The other side of the blade is serial numbered 5983, and the spine is date marked "40". Normal patina on the pommel and hand guard, and a nice original grip. The scabbard has light patina and finish loss throughout, but no dents and fits the blade nicely. Matching numbered on one side, and maker stamped with a 1940 date on the other side.
