Description

3/31/22 - This is a nice example of a rare Belgian Model 1889/36. Originally manufactured as a Model 1889 rifle, it was subsequently rebuilt just prior to WWII and modified into its current, somewhat more modern configuration. This rifle is chambered for the 7.65x53mm cartridge and had a new 23" Model 1935 style barrel installed when it was reworked by Manufacture d’Armes de l’Etat. Numerous other modifications to the original rifle were performed during the same rebuild including shortening the front of the stock, installation of new barrel bands & bayo lug, and fitting of a Mauser 98 style bolt sleeve and safety. These rifles saw service with Belgian troops defending their homeland against the invading Nazi's during WWII and were also in service with Belgian Congolese troops fighting the Germans in North Africa. The barrel and stock (arsenal-renumbered) match the receiver. Bolt assembly, magazine, and butt plate are mismatched. No import marks. The gun comes with a period-correct bayonet, scabbard, and leather sling. There isn't much actual finish loss, but there is freckling and light spotty oxidation throughout. Tiny dings, scratches, and bruises on the stock throughout. The bore has good rifling with minor pin-pricking in the grooves.
