Description

11/19/24 - This is a very nice example of a rare Japanese Arisaka Type 99 Naval Special carbine from World War II. There were only about 14,000 of these manufactured at Yokosuka Naval Arsenal and even fewer were manufactured as carbines. They feature a crude cast iron receiver and small parts (only barrel and bolt are steel), crude machining, and a crude peep-style rear sight. The only numbered part appears to be the receiver. There is a faint Naval Anchor proof on the receiver. It comes with a minty period-correct bayonet with slab-style bamboo grips and comes with an excellent period-correct rubberized canvas scabbard (with belt loops). As one can imagine, the metal parts show some minor patina, but nothing major. Overall, the wood stock is excellent with very little sign of use and abuse. However, there is a tiny chip on the left side by the front barrel band. The bore has good rifling with just minor frosting in the grooves.
