Description
10/2/26 - This is a "double dated" 1918 DWM Luger with an interesting, rich history. It started its life being issued to the Imperial German military in 1918, as shown by the Imperial proofs on the right side of the receiver, and was then diverted to the police. It has a "1920" government property marking on the chamber, Simson "Eagle 6" proofs on the barrel, and other police features such as an added police sear safety and magazine safety. There is also an "R.W.S. V." marking on the right side of the receiver, which stands for Reichswasserschutz (German National Waterways Protection Service). The front strap carries two police unit markings. The first, "S.MA.I.H.", has been crossed out. The second, "S.Wpr.I.394.", identifies the pistol as having been assigned to the Schutzpolizei (uniformed security police) of West Prussia. Another interesting feature is that the left side of the frame is dated 1917, meaning this was a 1917 Navy Luger frame. The gun is mostly matching, but some of the small parts are mismatched. It comes with a mismatched WW2-era "Eagle 63" magazine. The finish rates about 94% with general high edge and muzzle wear and some very light freckling on the grip straps. Fitted with un-numbered "Eagle 6" marked Simson grips. The bore has very good rifling. The takedown lever retention pin is missing - this does not affect the overall functionality of the gun, it just makes the takedown lever loose when disassembling. A fascinating Luger with layers of Imperial, Navy and Weimar police history.
