Description

3/16/22 - This is a nice example of a Smith & Wesson Model 1917 issued to the US military during WW1. The gun is all matching, "United States Property" marked on the underside of the barrel, and has the proper flaming bomb and "Eagle Head" military acceptance proofs on the left side of the frame. It comes as a rig with an excellent reproduction USMC holster (fits the gun very well). The gun itself has retained about 85% of its original high polish bluing. Most of the finish loss is on the grip straps, where are also tiny dots of oxidation. There is general high edge wear and spotty wear around the muzzle and where the barrel meets the frame. Noticeable light scratchy wear and handling marks throughout, most obvious on both sides of the frame. Some tiny dings along the right side of the barrel. Comes with excellent period-correct wood grips - the right panel is hand-numbered and matches the gun. The bore has good rifling, but there is minor pin-pricking throughout.
