Description

12/8/22 - This is a nice example of a Japanese Arisaka Type 38 Carbine. It is mismatched, but has a mostly-intact mum stamp on the receiver. There is a small circle defacing the mum, an added Japanese character between the mum and model designation, and two zeros "00" in front of the serial number. All of these characteristics indicate this example is a "school gun". These rifles were retired from military service and re-issued for use in training police forces, paramilitary groups, and their equivalent to high school ROTC organizations. This one has retained roughly 85% of its original finish. There is noticeable wear on the barrel bands, on the floor plate / trigger group, and some wear towards the back of the receiver. Minor thinning on the butt plate. While there isn't a ton of actual finish loss, there is brown patina and spotty oxidation covering virtually all of the metal parts. There are some areas with tiny pits here and there, most noticeable on the front barrel band and on the floor plate / trigger group. The bore is shiny, but the rifling is slightly worn with some tiny pits here and there. Comes with a period-correct cleaning rod, reproduction canvas sling, and a reproduction dust cover.
