5/9/25 - This is a Colt Model 1892 New Army revolver, manufactured in 1902 and chambered in .38 Long Colt, featuring a factory blue finish and a 6-inch barrel. What sets this revolver apart is the professionally engraved inscription on the left side of the frame, reading: “Captain William L. David / Co. A. 2nd Reg. / O.N.G.” — identifying it as a personal or presentation sidearm belonging to an officer in the Ohio National Guard. The 2nd Regiment of the O.N.G. had a long and active service history, including mobilization for the Spanish-American War in 1898, the Mexican Border Campaign in 1916, and later World War I. Although this revolver was manufactured slightly after the Spanish-American War, its 1902 production date suggests it was likely acquired during a period of postwar service or as a formal recognition of Captain David’s role in the regiment. Officer sidearms of this type were often privately purchased or presented by a unit or local government. The revolver remains in very good condition with matching numbers and all correct Colt markings, and the inscription adds meaningful historical and collector value tied directly to a named officer in one of Ohio’s most prominent National Guard regiments. While there isn't a ton of actual finish loss, there are areas of spotty freckling and patina, most noticeable on and around the cylinder. Fitted with period-correct hard rubber grips. The bore is mostly shiny with strong rifling, but there is some freckling around the muzzle end.
