Description
10/15/26 - This is an extremely rare Bolivian contract DWM Model 1908 Luger. An estimated 200 of these pistols were produced and delivered to the Bolivian Government in 1913, and very few survived the jungles of Bolivia; Costanzo states in "World of Lugers" that "to date only 6 are known". This very small contract run falls into the serial number range between 64400 and 65600, and this example is correctly within that range. They were built on the 1908 Commercial Luger with some distinct features found only on the Bolivian contract: they are without the hold open device, the safety area is marked "SEGURO", and the extractor is marked "CARGADO" on the left side. Instead of a national crest, the chamber is roll stamped in three lines "EJERCITO/DE/BOLIVIA" ("Army of Bolivia"). It has the standard DWM logo on the front toggle and the standard "Crown/N" commercial proofs, and it is correctly numbered in the commercial manner, with the full serial number on the front of the frame and the underside of the barrel. This one is all matching. The original finish rates about 90%, with general minor high edge wear, but most of the finish loss is around the chamber where the Bolivian marking was applied. There are also a couple of tiny dings on the side plate. Fitted with minty, unnumbered wood grips and comes with a wood bottom magazine that appears to have a couple of numbers (not matching). The rifling in the bore is fairly worn with light pitting throughout. One of the rarest Luger contracts, and a great opportunity for any advanced Luger collector.
