Description
10/15/26 - This is a rare 1908 DWM Bulgarian contract Luger pistol. There were exactly 10,000 of these pistols ordered by Bulgaria in the 1908-10 time frame. They saw heavy use in both WWI and WW2, with many rebuilt by DWM at least once or twice, and most were captured by the Russians after WW2, so surviving examples are hard to find today. The chamber is marked with the DWM scroll monogram, and the unique Bulgarian Crest is on top of the front toggle. The right side of the barrel extension is stamped with a single "Bulgarian Rampant Lion" acceptance/proof mark. The lower safety lever area is marked "FIRE" and the left side of the extractor is marked "LOADED", both in Cyrillic lettering. All of the numbered parts match except for the side plate, which is numbered "23". The original finish rates somewhere between 85-90%, with the majority of the wear on the side plate, around the high edges, and around the muzzle. The side plate also shows areas of patina and pin-pricking. There is light spotty wear on the front strap, along with dulling and freckling on the grip straps. Fitted with minty, unnumbered wood grips and comes with an unnumbered wood bottom magazine (there appears to be a hairline crack in the base). The bore has pretty good rifling with pin-pricking throughout. A solid, pre-WWI contract Luger with its proper Bulgarian markings.
