M40 Single Decal Heer Helmet

Description

7/16/25 - This is a very nice example of a German M40 helmet. The exterior of the helmet still has most of its original factory dark green paint, and the army decal on the left side of the helmet is clear and only has some minor scratching and fading. The metal on the exterior of the helmet has some light freckling of patina throughout, and one patch on the back right corner which appears to have been repainted to cover. All three split pins are intact and slightly loose. The interior of the helmet is likewise has some oxidization freckled around the brim. The steel band and leather liner are both intact. The leather liner is soft and malleable, and there is some surface cracking where the liner meets with the band. The short end of the chin strap with the buckle is intact, and the long end is partially intact but torn at the end where the holes attach to the buckle. The helmet is also marked with the name "Maurs" on the back brim. Made by Quist,  size 66, lot #DN35, and the "D" in the lot series is stamped backwards representing an interesting manufacturer error.
