Description

5/16/18 - This is a super nice example of a scarce Type S carbine, made by Mauser Oberndorf factory in the late 1910s. The Type S carbine was Mauser's answer to the Mannlicher carbine with a 20 inch barrel, that gained popularity before WWI. This particular gun is in original condition with 90-95% of the original bluing remaining.  There isn't much actual bluing loss but there is browning to the finish in a few areas.  All the proofmarks are crisp with Crown/B and Crown/U clear on the receiver and on the bolt handle. Chambered for a popular iconic Mauser 7,9mm(8,0 N) cartridge, this rifle appears to have .318 bore diameter and standard 8mm WWII mauser ammo should not be used. Excellent bore. Original wood that appears to have two minor professional repairs - on top of the tang and in front of the front sling swivel- minor and barely visible. Rifle remains in its original factory configuration and was not drilled for scope mounts. Very attractive and scarce early Mauser sporter.
