Description
11/5/26 - For sale is a pre-WWII German half-liter commemorative service stein from the motorized Jäger battalion at Kassel. The front is decorated with the St. Hubertus stag head and cross in an oak wreath, with the legend "Oberjäger-Vereinigung Jäger Batl. III./15. (mot.) Kassel" above and "z. Erinnerung an die Dienstzeit" (in memory of the period of service) below. The body has raised blue, red and gilt beaded bands at the top and bottom and a blue accented handle, and is marked "0.5l" by the handle. The pewter lid is topped with an M35 style helmet finial bearing the two decals, sits on an embossed oak leaf base, and is maker marked "G. Wieninger München" on the underside. The lid rim is engraved "Obj. Breunig" for Oberjäger Breunig, along with his service dates "1.4.33" and "10.11.38". The base is marked "992". The colors are bright, the stoneware shows no visible chips or cracks, and the lid hinge works properly. A very nice named and dated service stein.
