Description
11/5/26 - For sale is a German half-liter stoneware beer stein with a Bavarian WWI patriotic theme and pewter lid. The front shows an Iron Cross dated 1914 over crossed cannon barrels, flags and an oak wreath, with the Bavarian crown and lozenge shield below, framed by blue and white Bavarian colors and flanked by two Bavarian lions. The banner carries the old Bavarian motto "Lämmer bei Pokalen, Löwen in Gefahren, so sind die Bajuwaren" (lambs at the drinking cups, lions in danger, that is how the Bavarians are). The hinged pewter lid is cast with an Iron Cross inside an oak wreath, and the body is marked "1/2L" by the handle with "1458" written on the base. The colors are bright, the stoneware is clean with no visible chips or cracks, and the lid hinge works properly. A great display piece for a Bavarian or WWI collection.
