10/05/26 - This is a Sharps New Model 1859 rifle in .52 caliber that falls within the US Navy "Mitchell Contract". The serial numbers of this contract fall between 39436 to 42500. The rifle has a well-worn finish on the metal that is darkening from age. The stock and forend are in great shape with plenty of handling wear. The bore is bright with strong rifling, but there is some prickling of surface pitting at the chamber and at the muzzle. Action functions properly. The barrel has a bayonet lug for a blade bayonet. A nice US Navy contract-range Sharps with a bright bore.
