Description
10/2/26 - This is an excellent example of a 1940 Mauser Luger fitted with the rare reddish Krieghoff grips. Only a very small set of 1940 Lugers left the factory with these grips, which Mauser is believed to have tried as an option before producing its own black plastic grips. Most are found in the G to K blocks, but according to Hallock's book, some are found in the D block, as with this one. The gun is all matching and wears the proper "Eagle 655" military acceptance proofs. It comes as a rig with two unnumbered "Eagle 655" magazines (one is a "42" marked armorer's replacement magazine), an "Eagle 655" tool, and an excellent 1940-dated black leather holster. About 96% of the original finish remains, with general high edge wear, muzzle wear, a couple of dots of wear on the sideplate, a couple of light scratches on the front strap, and one dot of discoloration on the right side of the barrel. The period-correct Krieghoff grips are excellent, with no cracks or chips. Mint bore. A rare and desirable variation that Luger collectors seek out.
