Description
5/2/24 - This is a rare and desirable Winchester Model 97 trench shotgun from 1942 with original bayonet and scabbard. This shotgun is in the proper serial number range for WW2 trench examples, and correctly has martially marked receiver. Other correct features include the WB inspector's mark on the stock, with Winchester marked buttplate, a small separation between the muzzle of the barrel and the nose cap of the bayonet lug assembly, a 20in barrel with 'cyl' marking, the mag tube with two sets of holes, stock inletted for sling swivel, unmarked action bar, and more. Unfortunately, there are signs that the sight bead was removed, and this is a later WW2 heat shield so it does look like this heat shield was added or swapped post factory. The bluing on the shotgun is original, but shows a patch of wear on the left side of the receiver and some more thinning on the heat shield/bayo lug. Strong, shiny bore. The stock has various dings and dents but no cracks. Comes with a canvas sling, and the scarce, original bayonet. The bayonet is Winchester made and in great shape, with original scabbard present.Specifications
