Description
6/12/21 - This is a very rare and very early Sauer K98k from 1934. All matching and original, the recognized serial range for production of this variation was 478-7656, making this the latest documented serial. With an estimated production of under 10,000 this is also one of the most rare K98 variations. When German re-armament began in 1933, Sauer was assigned the manufacturer's code 'S/147', and their initial production used a 'K' date code to signify 1934, similar to the Mauser Lugers of that year. The first Sauer K98k rifles used a different barrel band retention system than Mauser, with two separate springs pinned into the stock. All other subsequent K98 production used a single band spring inlayed into the right side of the stock. This rifle features a solid walnut stock that is numbered and matching to the receiver. Same goes for the bands, trigger group, bolt assembly, buttplate, and even the cleaning rod! The stock has sharp Heer Army proofs, but the buttplate is "R.F.V." marked, which is common for this variation. Excellent, original bluing on the receiver and barrel, with some wear on the front band. Rifling is good but bore is deeply frosted throughout.Specifications
